Carmen à la récré est basé sur le célèbre opéra de Georges Bizet, qui met en scène une Gitane espagnole à l’esprit rebelle. Notre Carmen est une petite fille combative au triste passé: ayant été adoptée par son oncle qui vit au Canada, elle éprouve des difficultés à s’adapter à son nouvel environnement. Farouchement indépendante, Carmen a deux passions: chanter et danser. Lorsque Tory Adair, ‘le gars le plus cool de l’école’ essaie de l’intimider, et lui résiste. Quand il la qualifie, elle et sa danse, de ‘stupide’, Carmen devient folle de rage et pourchasse Tory à travers la cour de récré, et se retrouve dans le bureau du directeur – dès son premier jour d’école!

Back by popular demand, Shoestring revisits Mozart’s most famous opera, and offers an ideal introduction to the glory of this art form. In the whimsical story, Allegra finds a golden flute on her way home from school. Blowing on it, her street turns into a dark forest. She blows again and out pops Papageno, a strange bird-catcher with a padlock on his mouth. Through the power of music and the magic of make-believe, Allegra and Papageno embark on an adventure of sharing and self-discovery involving a four-legged, two-winged, fire-breathing dragon, the scary Queen of the Night. How can Allegra help her new friend and get home in time for her music lesson?

La Flûte enchantée de Shoestring
De retour à la demande générale, Shoestring Opera revisite La Flûte enchantée, le fameux opéra de Mozart, une façon fantastique d’initier les jeunes à ce glorieux art qu’est l’opéra. Dans cette histoire pleine de rebondissements, Allegra trouve une flûte dorée au retour de l’école. Curieuse, elle souffle dedans, et sa rue se transforme en forêt sombre. Soufflant une seconde fois, elle voit apparaitre Papageno, un étrange personnage chasseur d’oiseau dont la bouche est fermée d’un cadenas!
Grâce au pouvoir de la musique et de l’imagination, les deux personnages s’engagent dans une aventure de partage et de découverte de soi impliquant un dragon cracheur de feu, doté de quatre pattes et de deux ailes, et la terrifiante Reine de la Nuit. Comment Allegra saura-t-elle aider son nouvel ami et retourner chez elle, à temps pour sa leçon de musique? La suite dans un gymnase près de chez vous.
Les interprètes chantent en anglais et en français selon la trame sonore. La séance de questions et réponses peut se dérouler dans les deux langues ou en français seulement.

Hansel and Gretel live with their single mom next door to a very strange lady who practices night and day on a cello. And why is she always sweeping her front porch? Who knows? “She might be a witch, with an awful twitch, who rides the air with a broomstick switch!” Thoroughly spooked, they fall asleep and wake up to a wild roller-coaster ride through the land of the fairy tale, with a wondrous gingerbread house and a crazy old witch—who plays the cello! Hansel shows off some groovy dance moves set to Humperdinck’s gorgeous music as Gretel leads them both out of trouble and into a greater understanding of their strange neighbour. Come and join the dance!

Hansel et Gretel
Hansel, Gretel et leur maman, une mère célibataire, ont pour voisine une dame plutôt étrange qui pratique le violoncelle jour et nuit. Et pourquoi diable balaie-t-elle toujours son perron? Qui sait, peut-être est-ce une sorcière? La tête pleine de ces images, Hansel et Gretel s’endorment… À leur réveil, ils se lancent dans une aventure rocambolesque dans le décor du célèbre conte de fées, où ils croiseront une appétissante maison de pain d’épice et une sorcière pour le moins bizarre — qui joue du violoncelle! Hansel a l’occasion de montrer ses pas de danse inspirés par la somptueuse musique de Humperdinck, tandis que Gretel les tire tous deux du pétrin, ce qui leur permettra de mieux comprendre leur étrange voisine. Bozo’s Fortune is a wickedly funny fable based on Puccini’s comic opera Gianni Schicchi. Uncle Bozo has died and left his fortune to stray cats. The greedy relatives who have been counting on a windfall are devastated. They make use of a trickster, Johnny Schicchi, to try to overturn the will.
